Design Matters 2013

“While it has become, therefore, proper and necessary, for a recent discipline such as design, to continue to question disciplinary boundaries and the relationship between professional practice and academic research in the field, in order to identify new areas of intervention and refine the methods of theoretical reflection and creation of products; on the other hand we are risking (paradoxically especially within the academies themselves) to lose sight of the point: design matters.
The important role of design in creating innovation and in the study of contemporary material reality (characterized by complex issues and the increasingly strong systemic dimension of the problems) should be the starting point to show through our work.”
These are the premises that have triggered the first national symposium of the Italian PhD in Design, organized by the University IUAV of Venice, and the reflections from where I started, together with my colleague Raffi Tchakerian for the choice of the name of the conference, the graphic design and the creation of the dedicated site.
The event is an important opportunity for reflection on what design research means in the field of industrial and interaction design.
I participate at the event realizing the convention’scorporate image (click here see to the project description page) and communication strategy and as one of the speakers.
Design Matters conference will be held in Treviso 4 to 6 July 2013. All details are on the site: www.museologiadesign.it /dm
